Power Weight Loss Tip: Eat slowly.
Your brain tells you when it’s full and you should stop eating. We’ve all experienced that over-stuffed feeling – especially during the holidays when we tend to really “pig out!” The mechanism in your brain that triggers the feeling of fullness is, let’s just say, a bit slow to react to your body. If you slow down the pace of your eating, your brain gets a chance to catch up with your stomach. When it tells you “I’m full” – you need to stop eating!

Have you ever been really busy and had to stop to do something in the middle of a meal, only to return 20-30 minutes later and find that you’re not nearly as hungry as you were? That is because your brain caught up with your digestive system.
Eating a meal is not a sporting event! It’s not a sprint! If you have the habit of eating in a hurry and “scarfing down” your food as quick as you can – STOP! This is a terrible dieting habit and it doesn’t allow your brain’s natural ability to say “I’m full” to prevent you from stuffing yourself.
Ask anyone who’s ever competed in a hot dog or pie eating contest. They will tell you the trick is to stuff as much in as quick as possible at the beginning because the longer the contest goes, the harder it is to eat another bite. Why? Because their brains have time to catch up with their bodies and trigger the “I’m full!” signal. Once you get that “full” signal, you don’t want to eat another bite – and it is actually uncomfortable to try and continue eating!
Power Weight Loss Tip: Drink water between bites at meals.
This is a great trick to give your brain time to catch up with your digestive system! By drinking water between bites you are slowing down the pace of eating and you are adding extra volume to your stomach! The water helps your stomach to actually be more full – plus your brain tells you “I’m full! Stop eating!”.
This secret trick has helped me when I was in over my head with a really bad junk meal burger that I knew I shouldn’t be eating. Plus I had a bunch of greasy french fries too! By drinking sips of water between bites, I ended up feeling full faster and I avoided eating the entire burger and the entire box of fries. Success! Plus I got to feel satisfied by eating a little bit of junk food that I was craving – without feeling like I was starving myself!
Add a little more power to this trick by not only drinking water between each bite at a meal, but by also drinking a small glass of water BEFORE you eat your meal! It doesn’t have to be a full 8 ounce glass of water – just 4 ounces will be fine. What this does is adds volume to your stomach and it takes up space that would otherwise be filled with food.
