FL4I_300-250Losing 10 pounds may not seem like a huge weight loss goal, but  if you’re like me, then it can become like the impenetrable walls of Fort Knox.  And I could never seem to break through the walls to get the gold on the inside… until I learned the correct combination code to unlock the front doors!  Before I show you the code you need to understand a few key concepts.

Concept # 1: The Mirror is a better judge than the Scale!  Losing weight is not really the goal – losing fat is!)  But unless you have an accurate way to measure body fat, the easiest thing for you to measure is your weight.

A better judge is the old fashioned mirror in your bathroom.  If you look skinnier, then your weight loss plan is working!  If not, then you should step on the scale and see if you’ve dropped any weight at all.

Concept #2: To lose 10 pounds you need to burn an extra 35000 calories.  You can take as long as you want: a month, a year or 5 years – its up to you.  But you won’t lose 10 pounds until you’ve burned an extra 35000 calories.

To put that into perspective lets look at a marathon runner.  These people run 26.2 miles.  The world record holders do it in a little over 2 hours!  (That means they average about 13 miles per hour – non-stop for 2 hours!).

You would think they must surely burn a boatload of calories running a marathon, right?  If an average woman ran a marathan, she would burn about 2700 calories.  For an average man, the number increases to near 3500 calories.  (Never mind that most average women or men could not complete a marathon, let alone run the entire 26.2 miles!)

That translates to about one pound of weight loss – per marathon!  That’s a whole lot of running for not very much weight loss.  To me the ROI (return on investment) is not worth it.  (Plus I don’t like to run!)  Keep in mind that after the race is over the body is still going to burn “marathon” calories and may continue to do so for a few days.

Using conventional thinking, you would have to run one marathon every day for 10 days to lose about 10 pounds of weight in 10 days.  That’s virtually impossible using conventional weight loss wisdom.

Concept #3: A more realistic goal is to lose about 2-3 pounds per week.  That means it should take you about a month of focused, dedicating dieting and exercise to lose 10 pounds.

Concept #4: Don’t believe all the weight loss marketing hype!  Most of it is pure garbage designed to get you to buy a product that doesn’t deliver what it promises – and they are counting on you to be too lazy to return the product for a refund.

Are there any ways to lose 10 pounds fast?  Yes.  Some methods are very dangerous to your health – I won’t cover them here!  There are other methods that actually work.  And believe it or not some of them work really fast!
